Shamanic Connection of Western New York Members
CECILE CARSON, MD
Cecile Carson, MD, has been practicing and teaching shamanism for more than 27 years, both nationally and internationally. She is a graduate of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies’ Three-Year Program in Advanced Shamanic Initiation and of Sandra Ingerman’s Two-Year Teacher’s Training Program. She is also a Founding Board member of the Society of Shamanic Practice and editor of the anthology Spirited Medicine: Shamanism in Contemporary Healthcare.
Sensitive and perceptive beyond her years as a child, Cynthia had two near-death experiences some years ago where the veil that exists between this world and the Spirit World became thinner, allowing her to see and converse with the other side. Upon her return to this world, Cynthia embraced shamanism to understand how to work with her enhanced connection and to learn the healing tools, rituals and ceremonies for working with the spirit of all things and the Spirit World. Currently, Cynthia studies with Sandra Ingerman. She has also studied with Cecile Carson, Betsy Bergstrom, Myron Eshowsky, and Tom Cowan.
MERRY COBURN, Ph.D.
A Licensed Mental Health Counselor and former teacher of spiritual psychology, Merry Coburn, Ph.D. integrates the healing philosophy of Shamanism into her holistic psychotherapy practice. Much of her work with people takes place in nature where Spirit becomes her healing partner and guide. Merry studied Shamanism with Cecile Carson, M.D. and has attended retreats and training workshops with Tom Cowan, Jan Edle Stein, and Sparrow Hart. Earlier in her career, Merry studied and taught at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology and authored the research publication Walking Home: Women's Transformative Experiences in the Wilderness of the Appalachian Trail.
